How Aprosae Preschool Spanish Came to Be

In 2001, I was a mom with two young kiddos. I decided to take a break from my marketing career to stay at home with them. But the internal drive to create still burned inside me. So I used my background in International Relations, training and curriculum development, foreign language study, and stints serving on humanitarian projects overseas to create four semesters of preschool Spanish language and Latin culture curriculum. I even wed my educational and professional background with my family life and brought my kids with me while I taught Spanish at preschools and daycares using this curriculum. Then other moms who wanted to have the same work/life balance that this curriculum afforded purchased the curriculum from me and started their own programs. And after that daycares and the YMCA bought the curriculum to roll out preschool Spanish programs led by their staff. When the time came for my kids to go to school, I reentered the workforce as a director of marketing and communications, mostly for nonprofit international organizations. And that’s the field I’ve stayed in since. Fast forward to 2023. I have three more kiddos. Now that they’re preschool age, I’m once again modifying my career direction to make a difference in my kids’ lives – and others. I’ve always wanted to rebirth the books and curriculum into the digital age and now is the time as I’m knee-deep in the preschoolers’ world again. It’s my hope to make another impact on a new generation of children. I’m passionate about having kids learn another language and culture because it’s not only enriched my life in so many ways but it’s also opened up a wider variety of career possibilities. I want that for my children. And I want that for other children. I hope our preschool Spanish resources, including our new book Where is my baby? ¿Dónde está mi bebé?, do that for all who use them.
